When I was last in Chambers St., there were pouring an '09 Digioia Royer Bourgogne. It was good enough that I bought some on the spot.

I was majorly ambivalent towards them.

Will you live long enough for 2009 Burgundy to get into your sweet spot anyway?

You planning on coming for me, O Simian of Terror? I just gotta make sure that the Progeny knows enough to appreciate what's in the cellar. Beats a college fund any day of the week.

No, not you. BJ waits 20 years for small vintage Beaujolais. How long would it take for big vintage Burgundy? 40?

Premier Cru's prices are no-gos for me, but I bought a pair of the premier crus in the Chambolle caveau earlier this year for 30-some euro each, and I thought they were beautiful.

At $100 bottle for the 2009s, they have some stiff competition.

For example, Wine Library has the 2009 Taupenot-Merme La Combe d'Orveau for $77.

David Russell, the writer of those notes, and I have been close friends for 30+ years. He definitely has a Disorderly palate, if that's any help.

I have not had any wines from that producer.

In the small world category, Steve Edmunds hired David for his first job in the retail wine trade.

In all seriousness, even from a year like '09, I'm not going to wait more than 10-12 years on a generic Bourgogne. Fortunately, I have plenty of off-vintage Grenache and other vinous joys to keep me busy until then. YMMV (or BJ's MMV) of course.

from what I've heard, 09 bourgognes aren't for much time in the cellar - more like current consumption kind of wines.

the '02 village C-M "normale" and the "vv" were both good drinking wines, seemed to show nice chambolle character, the VV is still nice, with some complexity, even as recently as July of this year.
