CWD: '98 Paul Autard CndP La Cte Ronde

Stephen South
With Pot Roast
1998 Paul Autard Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuve La Cte Ronde, alc 13.5%, a 50/50 blend of Grenache and Syrah..peppery nose with some leather.. the grenache dominates the palate with a gentle sweetness, brambles, meat, iron, leather ..unmistakably Southern Rhone (to me at least)... drinking very well at the 10 yr point.. no problem with waiting 10 more years..

The wood doesn't bother you on this wine? I haven't had it since release but at that time the tang of vanilla and toast was quite disconcerting.

I agree with Jonathan about the oak in this wine. Last time I opened a bottle, it smelled of coconut suntan lotion. If you want to trade for my last bottle, let me know.

Interesting.. my tolerance for oak has gone down a lot... I really wasn't put off by "wood" in this particular bottle.. maybe my palate has gone to shit!!
