Help! What is the antidote to this poison? Lapierre?

Trapiche Viña Fausto Orellana De Escobar Malbec 2007 - Argentina, Mendoza, Valle de Uco
29,90; 14,5% abv. Jesus, this is boring! A completely anonymous wine, utterly lacking in personality. It doesn't lack oak, however. This is a complete failure as a wine because there are no grape based aromas, only oak based ones. Thick, too concentrated and too oaky palate that doesn't resemble wine very much at all. Aromatically uninteresting and unidentifiable from a million other wines made in a ripe, new French oak style; the palate is notable only for being loathsome and repugnant in its persistent oak flavours. I was actually hoping this would be slightly corked so the aftertaste wouldn't have been so long - alas, this last mercy was not to be, so the aftertaste was long and, as you probably guessed, dominated by oak. It never ceases to amaze me how some seem to find it a virtue to make something so unvinous from grapes. A failure as a wine and a failure as any drink purporting to bring pleasure. An excellent drink if you want to torture me with a combination of oak and boredom, however.

No more open minded tasting for me for a while if this is the sort of feeling I get from trying these wines. No more giving a chance (even on others' money) to such wines that I should know are over on the dark side. I will be emotionally scarred for a long time from this.

Otto,
I have had a few wines that have brought me to such melodrama but I get over them more easily as I have always stocked up on Overnoy. No better antidote.
Best, jim

Sorry, those names aren't imported here. I do have some Lapierre. That will have to do. Hopefully the melodrama will soon end, once I get a glass of that into me.

My sympathies, Otto. I recently finished a bottle of Trapiche "Oak Cask" Malbec that was likewise boring, confected and over-oaked. Yes, Lapierre Morgon or Raisins Gauloises should be a good antidote.

Best of luck,
