Every neurotic hippy I meet claims to be allergic to sulfites and then they say this: "They don't add sulfites in Europe, I know because when we were in Italy we drank lots of wine and I never got a headache."
I've tried various responses but not had any success getting across that it is probably the high alcohol and residual sugar in their 9 dollar jug wine that is giving them the stateside headaches.
Anyway thanks for the link, maybe I'll just start handing out copies of the article to any future misinformed hippies.

The whole misinformed drinker (it's not just hippies) issue with sulfur came home to me when I was giving a tasting, and one woman said she could only drink the GERMAN RIESLING because the sulfites in the other wines made her ill.
Once I unrolled my eyes from the back of my head I slipped her a glass of unoaked Chardonnay while she wasn't looking. No harm ensued.
