'05 Alesia Syrah

2005 Alesia Fairview Road Vineyard Santa Lucia Highlands Syrah....the second label of Rhys...I don't think I have ever had their Syrah but love their PN....this is great....has the meat, intensity and garrigue of a great Cornas or Saint Joseph...dark and brooding with an intense fruit attack..still some tannins....A remarkable bottle of wine!!

Interesting. I didn't like any of the Alesa syrahs until the 2006 Fairview Ranch, but I have heard other reports that they developed nicely.

The Rhys estate syrahs look like they could turn out very special, although they are kind of pricey.

If it's any consolation, production costs in the SC Mountains are exceptionally high.
