Lot No. CJBB08-1. Blend of chardonnay and savagnin. Nose is delicate, pretty, insistent. Mineral, lemon, with a note hovering ambiguously between dill and anise. Oak aroma increases with temperature. Before food, acid overwhelms fruit. After food, still uneven. Lightly oxidative, yeasty aftertaste, more wood than in the aroma. An oily quality, perhaps chardonesque. Because of the dilly thing, I'm wondering, with Pavlovian acumen, if it's American oak, a most unlikely proposition. This a particular wine, with unique personality, interesting in contrast to same ole Burgundian chards. But pleasure more intellectual than sensual, seldom a good sign. Too much wood for the present state of my wood receptors. Though Marcia commented that the high acidity made the wood appear less, well, lumbering. Bottle did not go fast. Totally loved this at the Chambers launch of Ed Behr's cookbook but, last night, in the sanctuary of my own home, it cut a much narrower swath. Will let my remaining rest a while, in case they're dozing.
