Just had my last one of these. It was in better shape than the last couple, but it was still a shadow of its former self.
 
It was really lovely on release, very pure and focused with nice depth, clean but not messed with. It was all the more appealing because it was a screaming bargain when David imported it direct. I can't help thinking Leroy traded the capacity for development for up front appeal, which is fine, but seems a shame with Chenin.
 
It was the first one imported to the NYC market. It's certainly possible the wine has improved. I haven't been tempted since, especially when the price doubled.

The first Layon was in 1997 (or 1996) and the last in 2005. The first dry wines was in 2000.
