And now for something completely

06 Clos Saron "Heart of Stone" Syrah

Breathing through my blood. Making bird-call trills with cocoa tagliatelle nested among tiny porcini. There is some VA, but I find that it gives character, rather than removing pleasure (I may be ill-trained). I like this wine; I'm a tough customer, even for "restrained" wines from that state. This one is my dear and quirky friend.

Hm. Had Clos Saron tonight too. 2010 "deeper shade of blue", cinsault/syrah/rousanne. Nice wine, very floral with a bloody/rusty edge. Bloody flowers for Halloween, seems appropriate! Certainly a wine of character and very enjoyable.

Gideon poured his as yet unreleased Pinot at Family Winemakers and I thought it the best wine in the room. Some nice things up that way.
Best, Jim

Further evidence that "that state" is just a state of mind. Eccentrics and wack-jobs permeate the California wine biz and some of them often turn out to be making wines that can thrill and delight even the most old-worldish winelovers among us.

-Eden (sort of like the "all German wines are sweet" or "Muscadet only goes with oysters and should be consumed within a year of its vintage date" canons)
