1998 Alain Voge Cornas Cuvee Vielles Vignes, alc 12.5%, $55: Murky appearing in the glass..sweet fresh raw beef on the nose...forest floor, iron, beef, leather and blood all on the palate...not sweet but not sour...still some tannins..evolves with just a short while in the glass.. still drinking in a fairly youthful way...a nice treat while trimming the Christmas tree..

Nice timing, just picked one of these up yesterday for $27. That's a price that would have left me wide-eyed just a short time ago, but sales abound these days. From your note it sounds like it may be just a couple of years from peak?

i just recently had my first 1998 noel verset cornas (kermit lynch back label)--the evening of november 04. a very happy evening indeed.

i was with a large and festive group celebrating the end of the best campaign any of us have seen for decades (or more), and i didn't get down and personal with the wine, but it was just stinking excellent. absolutely outstanding. i've got a little 1998 thiery allemand, and it looks like it's getting to be time to stick a toe in that water too.

Robert, The Allemand may need more time.. the '96 is good but going to get better..if you have several maybe a "toe in the water" is a good idea

Slaton.. yes, definitely needs a few more years to really peak.. I find the 1980's Cornas are just getting ready..
