2007 red Burg demanding patience

A recent thread seen elsewhere suggesting red Burgundy shutting down may not be so far fetched. I recently opened a Slyvain Pataille, Marsannay, Clos du Roy, 2007, and -- hades spades -- if the damn thing wasn't a different beast from one about 2 years ago. The earlier bottle was all lovely lush fruit with an almost feminine disposition. This recent bottle has firmed up to the point where the red fruit is crunchy and the minerals are out in force. This is a good bottle, better than low end but of course, not top tier, but I was surprised at it's new found structure which didn't seem to be there before. Burgundy likes confusing people.

This wine was beautiful the other evening. I had it over several hours and while there was some evolution, it was going right after being popped. I, too, was surprised the depth and the emergence of earthier, meatier tones on the back-end. I am not sure how much "better" this could become but I can see it becoming a "different" wine in a decade.
