Puffeney Poulsard M 2008

I loved this on release! I opened a bottle last night and it was maderized. Some browning near the rim and sherry notes on the nose. Is this just "shut down," or does anyone have any recent experience? I highly doubt this is heat damage as I have kept the wine in the same place as the rest of my wine (all fine, hopefully). Please let me know, I will update on how it is this evening.
 
I just opened an '06 a few weeks ago and it was very nice - no signs of what wrrntl is describing. It doesn't seem like the normal aging curve to me.
 
What *is* the proper aging curve for ploussard? I think they are best young and at mid-age, but I haven't tried a Loye yet.
 
Don't bother with Loye. I have probably had about five bottles of Loye wines at this point, some of which were supposedly ex-cellar releases, and every bottle was either over the hill, corked, or otherwise off. I realize five is not a large sample size, but it's enough for me to conclude that there is just too much other good (Jura) wine out there.

Yikes, I have a magnum of 2005 that I've been sitting on. Hopefully, this is a bottle issue.

But as MarkS points out, what the hell does the aging curve look like for poulsard?

I've had a few aged bottles of Overnoy Pupillin (most recently when FL Jim kindly opened an '04 for us in Sonoma a couple of years ago) and they seemed just wonderful to me. Suis generis? Dunno.

'04 Puffeney poulsard is in fine shape. I like the way these age and would have to guess that you caught the wine on a bad day, had a flawed bottle or perhaps '08 is just not one for the ages.

A fellow disorderly recently popped an '02 Overnoy Ploussard while I happened to be in the vicinity, and I can attest that it is still drinking beautifully. But I get the feeling that not all Poulsard ages as well as Overnoy's. The '93 aside, of course (not that I have ever had the "pleasure").
 
08 Puff Poulsard "M" tonight and no sherry, no brown. It's a bit shrill, but I can live with that. I'll call it crisp.
 
I am chalking this up to a bad bottle. Now, the Gahier Trousseau Grands Vergers 2010 I opened as a consolation was beyond delicious!
 
The only ageworthy jura reds that I know of are Jean Bourdy's old library releases. They are available from the winery. Nevertheless the whites are much better. Same happens with Camille Loye's whites

I also wonder about the aging curve for these wines...How does Puffeney Trousseau/Poulsard age? Ganevat whites? Gahier trousseau?

I've had great luck w/Overnoy from a bunch of vintages, except '93. I don't open the others often enough to have an opinion yet.

...same bad luck w/Loye from the 80s.

Just had a very nice 08 Puffeney Trousseau ‘Les Berangères’ at Lula Café in Chicago on Saturday and no signs of premature aging. Only wish we could have enjoyed it in better stems.
