So when you see Ginjo...chill it!

I went to a Saké tasting tonite downtown, really just a question of curiosity as I am not an expert like some of you here in this place. Have to say it was a real eye opener for me and many of the 20 odd participants at the tasting. I am not going to go through the complete line up of around 10 sakés but they were all of real interest.

I thought the Dassai 50, Junmai Dai Ginjo was superb. Licorice and a beautiful nose, graceful and elegant. Light sweetness and vibrant acidity with notes of ripe melons.
The "Jun" Junmai Ginjo, made by a female brewmaster, was also of interest. Horsey sweaty nose but very balanced and clean on the nose. Quite rare especially as a recent earthquake destroyed the house of origin!
We were the first folks in Canada to sample the Mikan No Osake. 80% mandarine juice, 20% sake. Really unusual, would go great with crepes suzette.

Bob,
Walking in San Francisco recently and came upon True Sake, a store devoted to sake only.
I don't know much about it but got three small bottles of differing qualities to try with a friend who does know a bit about it. Great store, nice experience and really delicious wines.
Best, Jim
