Apparently Patrick Bize has died of injuries sustained when he suffered a heart attack while driving. I haven't found a reliable news article, but there's plenty of chat. His Savignys hooked me on Burgundy, and he's been a kind of wine hero for me since, so I'm more than usually saddened by this event.

Yeah, the news so far seems to be confined to tweets from Gilman, Galloni, et al. Although my Savigny experience has largely involved the wines of Ecard, Pavelot and CdB, his death will be a loss for the region.

If we are ever together in the same place, I'll break out a bottle of Vergelesses or Guettes. His wines are still among my favorites.
