NWR: Ideas for Naples (Florida, that is!)

Andrew Zachary

Andrew Zachary
Heading for Naples, Florida for a quick vacation in mid-March. Any ideas for good food, wine or activities?

And as an aside, I wish very much my destination were Naples, Italy. Always wanted to see the Gabinetto Segreto, though I would be surprised if anything in the museum can compare with what is currently available on the internet.

Sea Salt (1186 3rd St, 239.434.7258)
Cafe Lurcat (494 5th Ave S, 239.213.3357)
Osteria Tulia (466 5th Ave S, 239.213.2073)
USS Nemo (3745 Tamiami Trail N, 239.261.6366)
The Local (5323 N Airport-Pulling Road, 239.596.FARM)

Andrew, do you live in Austin?

I like Sea Salt for lunch and walking around the shops on 3rd Street.

Echo Scott's endorsement for The Local - not fancy, it's in a strip mall, but the food is good.

Also worth trying is Bleu Provence for classic French - they also have a very well stocked wine store next to the restaurant.

More upmarket is also Baleen in La Playa - you can have dinner sitting outside overlooking the beach.

If you are heading over to Everglades City, Camelia Street Grill is good for a bit to eat (they have an organic garden) and it's overlooking the Barron River.

Further north for grabbing a pitcher of beer sitting on the beach - head to Doc's on Bonita Beach.

I had a good lunch at the Local and the wine list had a few interesting selections (but I'm not sure about storage).

USS Nemo was good for dinner.

Blue Provence is good for food but the wine list is better. They also have the wine shop as mentioned and the owner likes to pour tastes for people if they show some interest.
