restaurant advice in Napa/Sonoma

Places I want to try: Torc, Kitchen Door. Partly for personal reasons, but Sean and Todd can definitely cook.

I loved Scopa in Healdsburg when I ate there in 2012. I liked it so much one day I came back for dinner the next. Here's a steak for one from Scopa.

They have a good wine list. And on Wednesday nights they have winemaker night. The week you're there its Demuth Wine and Eric Demuth. His Facebook page notes he makes a cab, a pinot, a chard, a grenache and interestingly enough, a chinato. Some Googling shows he apparently favors lower alcohol wines.

Here's the list to winemaker nights at Scopa. Duncan Meyers from Arnot-Roberts is supposed to be there Sept.17 and some guy named Oliver McCrum is supposed to be there Oct. 8.
Winemaker night means the winemaker is there and talks to customers.

Scopa is in Healdsburg, an hour north-ish of Sonoma and Napa proper, fyi, but certainly worth a visit if you don't mind the drive. Full disclosure: I direct the wine program at Scopa's sister restaurant, Campo Fina, but have no financial gain in recommending Scopa. For Sonoma and Napa proper, I'll mostly defer to those who live down there, but I quite like Glen Ellen Star and - for breakfast and lunch - The Fremont Diner. Very cool local-driven list at GES.

I missed that this was for Sonoma as well. I love both Scopa and Campo Fina, I just wish they were closer to where I live (Berkeley). Great food, short but well-selected lists in both cases, great ambience. The tagliata di manzo pictured is excellent, the last time I poured there we paired it with Aglianico del Vulture and it was just right.

Fig cafe in glen ellen is really good too. I believe they allow corkage too.

If you get to heladsburg and are home sick for disorderly wines check out bergamot alley. More or less on the corner of healdsburg ave and the plaza. Next door to campo fino. only european wines. well selected. cool owner who spins vinyl all night.

Yes, Bergamot Alley is about ten feet from Campo Fina and around the corner from Scopa. I hear they're putting in a kitchen, too.

they also let you bring food in. ive ordered pizza and salad, eaten it at bergamot, while listening to great tunes. very enjoyable.

Sonoma County
El Molino Central - (Sonoma) Arguably the best Mexican food in NorCal. Oaxacan-Style.
Glen Ellen Star - (Glen Ellen) Best pizza in Sonoma. Great brick chicken.
Farmhouse Inn - (Forestville) Upscale. Great service. One of the best wine lists.
Scopa/Camp Fina - (Healdsburg) No-nonsense Italian food with great wine lists.
Tortilleria Jalisco - (Sonoma) Fresh tortillas during the day. Best food cart at night.
Fig Cafe - (Glen Ellen) Good food. No corkage.
Peter Lowell's - (Sebastopol) Fresh, hippyish food. Secretly decent list
Backyard - (Forestville) Farm-to-tableness. Great outside seating on a warm night
Diavola - (Geyserville) - Real Italian food in the northern part of the county.
