Some recent hit and runs

Xoriguer Mahon Gin - Made in Minorca, a holdover from when the Brits ran the place, with local grapes and imported juniper berries. Smoother and more complex, both aromatically and on the tongue, than what you are used to. Interesting on its own, amazing in a Negroni. Have not yet tried in a Martini or G&T, but I will.

Peillot Bugey Mondeuse 13 - Lovely pepper notes. Light and lithe. Franck does it again.

Edmunds St John Fenaughty Syrah 12 - Really lovely now. Wonderful syrah texture, and the flavors are all lined up. Sure, it will be better in 10 years, but I doubt I'll wait....

Calder Wine Company Charbono - Don't remember the vintage. Nice, easy drinking but not inconsequential stuff. Look out for this guy.

Closel Anjou Rouge 12 - Just lovely cab franc, and at a great tariff.

Bonal Aperitif - Lovely! A bit sweet for me, but great balance with the bitter. Really lighter on the midpalate, making it go down so easy.

Xavier Gerard St Joseph Le Blanchard 12 - Amazing balance. Really a suave, almost light, syrah that could come from no other place than the Northern Rhone.

Francois Gerard Cote Rotie 11 - Very classic in style and structure, but drinking beautifully now. Very fresh. Absolutely wonderful.

Pheasant's Tears Tavkveri Rose 13 - The Georgian wine scene, the little of it that I have experienced, does little for me, but this was delicious. Nice fruit, great balance.

Orto Dolc d'Orto Negre 11 - 13.5% and 100% Mencia. Over a period of weeks before harvest the prematurely raisinated grapes are picked and saved in vats to make this wine. Sweet, but not viscous. Awesome!

Orto Montsant 11 - Nice fine tannins. Really lovely, if a bit modern and clean.

Verset Cornas 00 - After allowed to breath for about an hour it gained some weight and was ready for the ring. Nothing flashy, just the beauty of its place.

Castellazo Pezzalungo Rosso 13 - Barbera 35%, Bonarda 35%, Uva Rara 15%, Pinot Nero 10% and Cabernet Sauvignon 5% from the Oltrepo Pavese. I just love this fruit driven, light style wine. Goes with so many types of food, and it's just fun!

Lopez de Heredia Tondonia Gran Reserva 2002 - Yeah, its lovely Lopez, but wait 10 years at least.

Lopez de Heredia Cubillo 06 - Now, this is what I want to drink now. Fresh and all Lopezy traditional. Serious but not without a sense of humor. Dive in.

Cappelletti Vino Aperitivo Americano Rosso - Cherry Bomb! Slutty, but very tasty!

Cocchi Vermouth di Torino -Botrytis, but not so heavy. Wonderful.

I've been feeling the same way about the '11. Have yet to taste '12.
