Got tired of doing tasting notes but love Jeff’s comment style, so here’s a few from the recent past:

2011 Argot, Estate Syrah homage to smoked bacon, concentrated, big

2013 Dirty and Rowdy, California Familiar mourvèdré from several sites; energetic, warm red fruit, salty/spicy; lightweight fun and a joy to drink

2012 Matthiasson, Cabernet Franc made me think the Loire ran through Napa; certainly of that ilk and nicely done

2012 Kosovec, Skrlet bright, lively, a touch of bitterness and inexpensive; muscadet like in the beginning but as it warms, becomes its own thing; nice

2011 Tournelle, Fleur de Savagnin the white wine I want to drink every week until I get sick of it; captivating

2013 Banshee, Grenache Gris (the darkest one) reminded me of Amari and had its fair share of tannin; interesting but not something I want a lot of

2010 Brooks, Pinot Noir “Rastaban” charming, focused and good; another glass, please

2012 Spell, Pinot Noir “Weir Vnyd.” from Yorkville Highlands this fruit is DRC clone and when it came in the winery was the same size and color as blueberries. At present, too young, but everything is in place to think this vin de garde

2010 Araujo, Cabernet Sauvignon I usually like these with ten or more years on them, when the baby fat melts away and they integrate to show the Eisele Vineyard mineral character. This was better than expected and bodes well for the future

2011 Occhipinti, Frappato as always, deliciousfrom first sip to last

1996 Laurel Glen, Cabernet Sauvignon “Sonoma Mountain” from the Patrick Campbell days and just what Sonoma cabernet aspires to; good stuff and not yet at peak

2012 Harrington, Trousseau barrel sample like; needs a year or two in bottle but has the stuffing

2011 Leo Steen, Chenin Blanc “The Steen” I will buy more of this as soon as I get back to CA; inexpensive and got better and better with air. I haven’t found another domestic chenin with this much complexity

2013 Tendu, White Wine vermentino from Matthiasson (second label) in one liter with crown cap. May I have some more please? Drink all night juice

1999 Chevillon, NSG “Les Saint-Georges” coming around although still no secondary development. Lovely with dinner

2013 Tablas Creek, Vermentino varietally correct and fine quality; another drink all night wine

2012 Two Sheperds, Mourvèdré complete wine au pointe; wonderful and worth seeking out

Best, Jim

I remember a time when these posts were full of Euro-peen wines. Full circle indeed!
Some.
But living in the middle of it makes for lots of opportunities.
Still, my cellar is mostly old world.
Best, Jim
