RTN: Bordeaux Bash

Is nathan on hiatus now? So who's running the show?

A tech suggestion: I think it would be useful if there were some kind of way to look up who was on hiatus at any given time, a hiatus scorecard, as it were. Or maybe just an extra space in each user's profile listing his or her current hiatal or non-hiatal status.

I donate this idea free of charge. Please feel free to implement it once the groundbreaking Preview Function To End All Preview Functions is unveiled.

Brilliant thinking.

And each person should be able to declare their type of hiatus and the expected duration. Like "hissy fit expected to last no more than a month" or "righteous indignation leave of indefinite duration" could be boxes you checked in your profile.

so based on the 62 comments in this thread so far, I assume no one has retasted any of those wines since the year 2000.

you guys suck.

and you complain about the other boards

.sasha, you are right.

I had only two bottles of the '88 LMHB and drank them both too early. The wine seemed very promising. Older bottles of LMHB in somewhat less prized vintages are the sorts of bottles I still look for occasionally.

Dude, Bordeaux is so over. Why would anyone have retasted any of these wines?

Hey, if you had some old ones you bought long ago and didn't need cash to buy other wine, wouldn't you drinking them? Or maybe saw a bottle of '81 LMHB sitting around somewhere for sale for $60, wouldn't you consider splurging?

And risk being labeled hopelessly pass? You know those folks at the cash register would be whispering and laughing at me behind my back. I'd be mortified.

Ok, imagine if it were six months ago before the end of The Gilded Age, you would never think to ever splurge on one $60 bottle of wine a year from anywhere, ever? The store could put the bottle in a brown paper bag and act like they'd sold you a bottle of Chinon. Or maybe you could get Lisa to buy it for you?

I'd splurge big time on $60 '81 La Mission. Still have one in the Bradcave. Love the stuff.

Had the '96 Baumard Savennieres Clos Papillon on Saturday and found it in a weird place. Lots of bee's wax/honey and maybe a little more oxidized than I prefer, but also very tight. I'm a bit surprised by the nuttiness as the '79 is so fresh in comparison, at least it was a year or so ago. I'm going to let mine sit more and see what happens.

The '89 La Dominique I had a few more times and different bottles showed different faces. A couple were like the note posted here, but others were much more herbal and acidic.

The '82 Gruaud is gorgeous now. The last few bottles have been in the "A" range, but I also like the funkier style of their bottlings more today than I did in 2000.

The '90 Canon is a bit more mellow now. Didn't like it as much as I did then, but just a little less. Could've been the bottle.

The '88 La Mission is beautiful now and I also like its leaner profile better today than I did then, but it's also integrated nicely over the years. Wish I had some. I'll just continue to drink Greg's.

I still don't like the '94 Loville-Poyferr that much.

Oh, I spend more than $60 on wines all the time. Just not hopelessly pass ones.

I just like rereading old notes for nostalgia purposes.

I guess that is just me.

'94 Poyferre has that Gevrey thing going.
Not as much as the '90 though.

You may have the 94 confused with another vintage. Definitely not spoofed. In fact, rather subtle.
