I generally think of the 94s being totally toast a while back - soft and sandalwoody. This, structured and lovely, is classic stuff. I would have guessed 99.

Interesting. I had the 94 Charbonniere Mourre des Perdrix some months back, and it was completely over the hill, surprisingly so. It was virtually undrinkable. A 95 a week or so later, though, was a point, though reserved and laconic in the mode of CdP 95s

This is the best 94 CNP I've had, and I've had a lot of them over the years.

Really! Better than Beaucastel, Pegau, Vieux Telegraph? Those are my standouts. I've had both the Clos des Papes and the Charvin a couple of times around age 10 and they were pretty great too.

Hmm... Well, I guess I haven't had THAT many then - of those only the Beaucastel. It was better than the Beaucastel.

Mind you, this was good, but don't want to overstate it. Just surprisingly good.

I'm surprised, still. The only Beau from the 90s I like better than the 94 is the 90. That's a little of a trick statement since I've never been a fan of the 95. And after 98 or so, they cleaned up their act and the wines became less interesting. Still, I've always been a fan of the 94.
