Chris is in the Christmas Islands, so I suppose explaining the joke falls to me.

The gag is that you expressed an economic theory of value for art, interestingly combined with point assignment. The former position has long had a foremost proponent, whom you know. I therefore greeted you with his name. The joke being that "Ian Fitzimmons" is an alias for y.k.w. Hahahaha. When you demurred, I pretend that you are protesting too much, being "coy." hahahaha.

I don't know much about Steve, really, and hope if he reads this he will forgive me for talking about him publicly in his absence. I read a post here not too long ago that said he'd been 'banned' from the board. Therefore, the intended humor of my response was based on the premise that, in the eyes of the board, I was being 'insulted' by the inferred comparison to y.k.w.

It's tragic when irony turns into iron and hits you on the head. But I'm confident now that you know I know you know I know what you meant. And I feel good about myself.

Hey! You're right: jokes are better when we explain them. Let's do this all the time now!

(FWIW, BTW, I did not know Steve propounded the price=score idea, but it makes sense to me).
 
I don't think Steve has been "banned," I think he's just retired from internet life and moved on to other, more productive forms of entertainment, like lawn darts. He was on Wine therapy briefly, at the very beginning, but retired soon thereafter, I believe. Actually, I think someone once said he'd tried to start up his own discussion forum at some point, but that it didn't work out.
 
Okay, I sought and now confess to error. What I saw was Joe Dressner telling Jeff Grossman "No wonder Plotnicki threw you off his board." How I jumbled this into Plotnicki being banned from this board is beyond me. Now I will now go on hiatus to reflect and atone.
