2013 Beurer Stettener Pulvermächer Gross Gewächs

What an amazing wine. The 2013 is the first vintage with the GG designation. According to Joe Salomone's write up this is sourced from his best vineyard on Kieselsandstein, which features poor, red and chalky limestone. The is a fascinating wine that has both weight and depth but also finesse. Savory, spicy, mineral, and a perfect example of the many different expressions of Riesling especially at the dry end of the spectrum. I have several more and can't wait to see how it ages. My guess it that is might age 30+ years like the older JB Beckers.

Joe Salamone's much better description

Jochen has a fantastic website in case you're interested. It has a pretty detailed cross section of the specific terroirs he's working and it pretty great for understanding the wines of someone so obsessed with soil types andd the expression they have on the wines.

Schilflsandtein '13The Schiflsandstein '13 is really nice too. Less weighty but haunting savoriness.

Agreed. I don't have the depth of Beurer experience that others on here may have, but towards the end of summer I drank a bunch of a mixed case of Gipskeuper, Schilfsandstein, Kieselsandstein, and Junges Schwaben, each of which was enjoyable in its own way. The Schilfsandstein was particularly remarkable for being deep without being broad or weighty, as you say.

Am also looking forward to coming across the GG.

funny, every time I've had schilf '13, I've found it slightly bigger than gips or kiesel. Doesn't mean I didn't love it.
