2 Northern Italian

Last night, I took these wines to a friend's Christmas party. He owns an Italian restaurant, but neither one of us had ever had these wines before.

Tenuta Bonzara Pignoletto Frizzante 2006- straw hue, little bubbles. Slight yeasty nose and hints of apples. Flavors of citrus. Creamy. Enjoyable.

Riccardo Battistotti Marzemino 2007, Trentino- Dark purple hue. Aromas of blackberries, mocha, pine, forest floor, mushrooms. Medium bodied, blackberry jam follows through on the palate. Vibrant acidity. No signs of oak here. This got better and better over the course of an hour.

I would be curious to try another Marzemino, but it seems fairly pricey for what it was. I wonder if it will age. I wouldn't think that it would go longer than 4-5 years, without any oak.

The Pignoletto was good, I was happy to have experienced it, but I would not be compelled to buy another one, unless at close-out prices.
