TN: Cailloux CdP 1998

16 November 2014

Les Cailloux Chateauneuf-du-Pape 1998
Our last bottle of André Brunel’s standard CdP, one of the few 1998 CdPs from my cellar that, although it looks and tastes ageless, isn’t really improving. Don’t get me wrong, we must have gone through 36 bottles (or 60+ including ones bought for a neighbor and friend), nothing per se wrong with the wine, but it’s not gained in anything, nor even changed much at all. Terrific raspberry-red colour, bright fruit, lively acids, freshness. Never a particularly complex wine, soft smoky minerality, smooth finish. dp 90-

Greetings from Switzerland, David.

You're lucky. Most of mine were corked or brett.

The first bottle of 1998 Cuvée Centenaire a friend of mine opened was corked, none of the standard bottling. And they all showed great purity. Merely slow to mature, and really only worth it for the CC.

Greetings from Switzerland, David.
