2013 Morgons, Chamonard and Foillard

2013 Chamonard started off slow with a bit of reduction, but with decanting it eventually showed the soft jeweled florals and the slightly-silky texture that I expect from Chamonard, all in a mid-weight 2013 frame. It was delicious and fun, if not amazing. Although there was some tannin so I wonder how it will age. But given that this was my last bottle, that will have to remain wonder and conjecture.

2013 Foillard Côte du Py on the other hand was very easy to drink from the beginning. Crisp silky elegant Foillard. Not the most expansive vintage, but also not as tart as 2012. And it was very harmonious and drinking beautifully in a condensed mid-weight/mid-range type of way. Kudos for the seamless harmony!

Foillard always seems to do "seamless harmony" well. I'd own more, but for whatever reason they've been a bit harder to find (for me at least) and prices seem to have also gone up a bit lately. I liked the wines a lot when I was able to buy them in the mid-20s.

I have not done any systematic market analysis but have noticed the same thing (allocations going down each year for NC, limits on bottles available to purchase) and always assumed it was because Foillard seems to have gotten a broader level of fame and many people who don't even drink Beaujolais otherwise consider him THE one name to have (see Berserkers threads on this point).
