Current notes:

1997 Coulee de Serrant, Savennieres: orange color, some Chenin aromas and flavors with some oxidation but mainly earth and decay notes

2014 Idlewild, Grenache Gris, Gibson Ranch: I have lots of this and each bottle gets better, more harmonious; lovely wine

2007 Rousseau, Ruchottes-Chambertin: a touch closed but the texture is remarkable and the flavors are solid; 'would be interesting to try after a couple hours open

2001 Foudi, Pinot Noir: Greek, I think, but pleasant enough

2010 Falesco, Marciliano: polished and a bit sweet for my tastes

2005 La Gravette de Certan, Pomerol: young but already showing depth and character

2008 Marcassin, Pinot Noir: (had a vineyard designation but I missed it) pretty nose with a complex mix of earth and fruit but fairly simple in the mouth

1999 Chateau Montelena, Cabernet Sauvignon: just what you expect; Cali for sure but balanced

1990 Verset, Cornas: idiosyncratic wine; cigarette ash and fruit nose, wonderful flavors and textures with no weight at all; a delight to behold

2012 Lillian, Syrah: nothing I want more of

1974 Inglenook, Cabernet Sauvignon: alive and balanced, lots of secondary development and well resolved; not a world shaker but a nice window to the past

2013 Stephen Goff, Pinot Noir: pleasant but no more

2006 Chicotot, Nuits-St.-Georges: four square and tannic at first but developed nuance over time; worth holding awhile, I think

2014 Sandlands, Carignane, Contra Costa: a bit sweet and simple

1989 Ferraton, Hermitage, La Cuvée des Miaux: fresh and fabulous, perfect balance, excellent at first sip and lost nothing over the afternoon; can age longer but certainly not required, bordering on profound

1978 Ridge, Late Harvest Zinfandel: a bit tired but another nice look back

2001 Chateau Suduraut: for those who love Sauternes but not I

1999 Jost, Bacharacher Hahn Riesling Auslese: clear as mountain spring water and beautifully balNced; what a refreshing wine, loved it

2008 Louise Brison, Champagne: a touch of age on an otherwise precise and charming wine; good stuff

2014 Two Shepherds, Cinsault: from a vineyard in Lodi that is reputed to be the oldest standing Cinsault on earth. Dry farmed, native yeast, whole cluster, old wood; everything done right. Is it profound, no; is it unique, yes. A one-of-a-kind experience done by a winemaker who understands what he has and respects it. This is the shit!

Best, Jim
