Tasty little 2009 red Burgundies

In the past month I've had a couple bottles of 2009 Louis Boillot Volnay Les Angles and they have been an absolute pleasure. Roundish and juicy but with elegance, class and precision, plus all the lovely lovely jeweled Boillot flavors. Not a rich or overly-profound wine, but there is a bit of tannic chew that emerges on the end and there is some 'substance'. Who knows where it may evolve, but in the grand scheme of things I was happy to drink this now because it was so tasty.

2009 Hendri Prudhon Saint Aubain Sur le Sentier du Clou VV has been in a similar vein: juicy, delicious and fine. Although more rustic and with slightly coarser earthier tannins than the Boillot Les Angles. Still, on its own merits, this is a lovely fine fragrant red Burgundy.

Can't say I have much more recent experience with 2009 red Burgundy. Are others showing so well? These were 'modest' 1er crus that perhaps benefited from the slightly softer approachable 2009 fruit. Perhaps 'fancier' wines are more stacked and need more time?

Seems too early to check in on these, imho. I tried a couple shortly after vintage to get a feel for their 'youthful fruit,' and found a common thread in a kind of burnt flavor, both CdO & CdB. Reduction? Anyway, hands off for a while still.

Bought some of 2012 Prudhon Sentier VV based on its excellent fragrance and inner tension, but will be holding these for a whle yet, too. High hopes.

Maybe. Although I think you've been revealing yourself to be a full-fledged necrophiliac!

Example, the 2001 CFE VT was many things last month, but not sure 'sweet' was one of them, for my tastes.

Not sure what the sweetness of CFE VT has to do with necrophelia, but immherhin. I have a few bottles left; it's a shame we can't sample one together.

The wines I like I do tend to like older, 'tis true - Burgundy, Muscadet, Chablis, MSR. Even good Beaujolais, to my palate, takes on surprising dimensions. They all get clearer, finer, better. Prudhon will be interesting to watch.

However, I did drink a 2009 Grezeaux two weeks ago, which was very good. Just eight years, so perhaps I am not completely beyond remenption.

American loves a story about redemption.

My thinking was that if you still found it 'sweet', you might be waiting for a further stage of evolution. I found it rather harmonious and food friendly.

But nothing (necessarily) wrong with being a wine necrophiliac. At the moment I am embracing my own preferences, which tend towards definite non-necrophilia and enjoying wines with the textural benefits and harmony of age, but still young enough for me to clearly taste the cepage. Fully knowing that some would scoff at these cradle-robbing preferences.
