Picq 2006 revisited and a young one from Patricia Green

Gilbert Picq Chablis ACC 2006- after 3 days under cork in the fridge: lemony, with hints of olive oil and white truffle backed by minerals; hints of white pepper? Wonderful deep flavors of lemon, rocks, and lots of minerals. The texture of the wine is orgasmic. I don't know how to describe it. It's rich, sexy, and alive. It just reminds me of youthful sex.

Patricia Green Pinot Noir Balcombe 1B 2007- I bought 6 bottles, and have 2 3L coming, so I didn't mind seeing what was up the skirt... red plum hue; vibrant. After 1 hour of air, the black cherry, which was almost overwhelming at first has subsided a bit to give way to some nice wild mushroom aromas. Hints of some minerals. Black cherry follows through with some rich black fruit compote flavors. A bit of red plum as well. Voluptuous. Nice acid and balance. Soft tannins. Weight is nice. 13% alcohol. I'm very excited to revisit this wine further down the road.

After another hour of air, the Balcombe 1B closed up like a fist. Tannins were stout, but ripe. Corked for a later date.

I have enjoyed the Balcombe 1B from '02, '03 and '04 but none since...sounds like I need to revisit this bottling..not a single Patricia Green in the cellar right now..bummer

I have also had the Picq before...must say "youthful sex" certainly isn't a common descriptor (albeit a compelling one!!)

Of the Patricia Green 2007s, I also picked up the Ana, Winderlea(formerly Goldschimdt), and Whistling Ridge. I'm gonna wait on all of them, after trying the 1B. Last year, I just did the Balcombe. It is still ripe, juicy, and gushing. After drinking half a case, I've decided to wait and see if we will get added depth out of Patty's 06s. In my girlfriend's words after I've asked her what she wants for dinner, "We could just have the Balcombe for dinner tonight."

Everytime I have consumed a Picq wine I have been impressed by how much sulphur he puts in his wine.

Do you not find it troubling?
