Felettig...

If the much maligned WD search engine is to believed, no one else cares enough for the wines of Domaine Felettig to post about them. Nevertheless, in case anybody is interested, the ‘11 village Chambolle is beautiful tonight. 13% abv on the label. Beguiling on the nose, light crushed fruit and a few stems. Dancing in the mouth. Saliva inducing but not glou glou. And it just tastes like very good adolescent Chambolle. Drink and hold, for sure.

I've had a few vintages of their Vosne 1er which is a blend of 3 interesting sites - Chaumes, Reignots, and Petits Monts. Did not find them up to potential though.

I’ve read about the Vosne 1er, Keith, but not tried it. I like the various Chambolles though quite a bit. A touch too oaky for me when they are released — not so surprising — but with a few years in bottle they are pretty. And pretty transparent.

Have tried a smattering of these over the past two years. I like the wines, although I don't buy them consistently.

2012 Felettig Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice (7/9/15)
Really pretty young wine that already shows great typicity, reeking of game-y Gevrey perfume on the nose. Bright red and blue fruit on the palate and intensely animal palate that mirrors the nose, with a wonderfully light and fine texture. Great freshness with medium acidity. Very impressed. Wish I had more, if I did I'd open in 2-3 yrs.

2011 Felettig Chambolle-Musigny (4/12/16)
Slight mocha/vanilla nose but nice crunchy red fruit and a fine subtle core of richness, plus some nuts and berries, foresty kind of nuance. Very nice.

2010 Felettig Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice (2/24/17)
This wine was MIA, no aromatics, no palate. Just no there there. Presumably slightly corked, but not within my threshold to detect.

2011 Felettig Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Carrieres (7/22/17)
Light, ethereal, pretty. Not showing tremendous depth or complexity but very pretty and high on the glou factor. A welcome relief.

Thanks Slaton. Very interesting. I have the Carrieres and the Fuees in a few vintages. I’ve been waiting to open them. Maybe soon.

And Jeff, no. Perhaps never before responding to the OP, but not never now. Just never had before.

Thought I posted on one of these before, but anywho... like the couple I've had before. Fruity, but not tooty.

Yeah, juicy fruity rather than jammy fruity. But missing the next gear.

I just don't know what to do with you.

Well, hardly ever.

Hardly ever had a Felletig...
Then give three cheers,
And one cheer more,
For the scansion Captain of the Disordore!

(Captain Miller, that is.)

I remember a few from the eighties, absolutely terrible.

The 80's were 30 years ago. Look at all the changes around the world since then, and then consider there is no comparison.

I had realised that, Mark, but one day someone might come across a job lot of 1980s Felletig as I did and if they do they might be grateful for my discouragement.

As I understand things, the current generation (brother first, then brother & sister) took over the farming and winemaking in the early 1990s. Huge improvements in both.

BTW, the ‘08 Les Carrieres the other night was terrific, still youthful, but not young: bright & lithe, supple but still on firm tannic frame. Phenomally pretty nose. Worth seeking out.
