A selection of recent drinking:
Rivetti, Ermanno (Villa Era) 1967 Spanna di Vigliano "Cru Viola" Riserva Speciale - 700 ml, 12.5%; on opening: smells musty and tastes of sour-mash so dump into a wide decanter and wait; about 1 hr: the mustiness blows off and the sour-mash recedes into a Juicy-Fruit background; typical old nebbiolo cran-raspberry flavors with the slightest suggestion of spearmint, the tannins are totally done, as fine as powdered sugar; about 3 hrs: all funk has passed and the wine is more strawberry-raspberry; an old but tasty mountain wine
Scherrer 2007 Syrah "Sasha" - Day 1: still incredibly tight, potent, silty; flavor profile is still reminiscent of Cornas but this needs to open; Day 2: about the same; meh
Dom. Filliatreau 2017 Saumur "Ch. Fouquet" - good acidity, fresh, young, clean cab franc, love it
Q. do Infantado NV Ruby Port - very charming, not at all goopy or heavy, my partner asks for more of this one
I Vigneri (Salvo Foti) 2016 Etna Rosato "Vinudilice" - restaurant list, not at all an expressive bottle (I'm being kind here)
Drago 1979 VdT "Freisa di San Rocco Seno di Elvio" - OTH, still a whiff of fruit from the glass but it's all balsamic (or worse) on the palate, the foil says "R.I.V. 4076 CN" on top
Pont de Breux (Maire) 2015 Jura Rouge "Tradition" - yup, just like it says
Chevillon R 2004 Nuits-St-Georges 1er "Les Chaignots" - lightweight and somewhat lifted, not particularly Burgundy-ish, but no greenies... did they turn into some kind of VA?; Day 2 same; nice enough though not what I think of as 1er Cru intensity
La Rousse 2013 IGP Pays d'Oc Malbec - juicy, gluggable, vin de soif
Finally, two labels. I like the style of the older Italian labels. Click to embiggen.
