What a fortuitous pick from the cellar.
Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape '05 -- Color is right on, generous fruitful aromas with a dimension of sweetness, classic tertiary notes, quite round on palate, tannins largely (if not completely?) evolved, so soft and luscious mouthfeel, red and black fruits, leather nuances, expected Beaucastel complexity albeit not as focused as usual, wonderful mellowness, really in a fine place. Not likely to get any better than now. [E]
Superb New Year's Eve selection with sauteed foie gras and sauteed potatoes and pears, and then pecan pie.
