1998 Percarlo San Giusto a Rentennano IGT, alc 14%, $56: A bit musty on the nose with underbrush and leaves (and maybe some wood)...tar/asphalt and tannic and leafy with sour fruit...finish is drying tannins...very little fruit showing...I'm not sure if this is just youthful or past it's prime...not overly impressive this evening...I'm not sure the fruit could outlast the tannins if it was held a lot longer...maybe I just don't know enough about thist style to appreciate it (certainly a real possibility)

It was a gentle underwhelming style and in a sense very intelligently made considering the vintage. I think it is successful and will improve a bit. It reminds me quite a bit of the 1986 which was peaking in 1987 or so so maybe not quite as succesful. i need to drink another bottle but your notes seems accurate.
