    Rest well, Joe Dressner

De-lurking to offer my most sincere condolences to Mr. Dressner's family and friends. Mr. Dressner's work changed how I think about wine and, as a result, how I think about and live my life. Thanks, Mr. Dressner. Oh, and a hearty FUCK YOU to cancer. Carry on. Peace, Dave (off to pop open a...

    Is Druet any good?

My most recent consumption was a '97 Clos de Danzay in 2007. The brief note in my cellar program was "This sucked. Drink up ASAP." I then opened my last bottle in '08, but it was corked. Don't recall seeing any vintages after the 1997 in any of the markets I frequent. Cheers, Dave

    The glories of Cordier funk

Subject to the standard 31 year old wine cavaets, I had a '78 Leoville Las Cases a few years back that was really beautiful - lush, complex, etc. Of course, given my palate, that probably means it tasted like old Burgundy and a Bordeaux lover would be disappointed. Had a '78 Lafite-Rothschild...

    Best Blog software/portal??

I'm a big fan of WordPress - http://wordpress.com/ I use it for my own blog and I administer three for my church with it. Mine is hosted by them at .com, the church blogs are hosted on our own server, using the wordpress software downloadable through wordpress.org I fully admit that once I...

Showing a little love for Putnam Weekley

Mark, Thanks for resisting the obvious "spinning out of cone-trol" pun. I am weak. In so many ways. Cheers, Dave

    Hail in Rhone?

Aye. If you could post a list of your greatest fears and insecurities that would help all concerned. Cheers, Dave

Has Anyone Here Ever Been Thrown off DrVino's blog Comments Section?

No. But then apart from that one post someone linked a month or two ago, I've never been to the site nor have I ever left a comment, so I'm not exactly a likely lad for a bannin'. Cheers, Dave

    chicago restaurant recs?

Not to get pizza drift going, but since it's an extraordinarily rare opportunity to discuss a restaurant I actually know well enough to comment on meaningfully, I'm fucking taking it. Pi is in my neighborhood, and it's really very good. Not so much like Chicago-style at all, but even my Hyde...

List your top 5 cooking shows here in this thread!

I enjoyed David Rosengarten's Taste when it was on in the early days of the Food Network. Ditto the early seasons of Good Eats, though AB occasionally crossed my tolerance threshold. However, I haven't had "real" cable for 7 years now, so I'm not exactly up to date. There was a really nice...

RANT: Another (spongy) nail in the coffin

That's a pretty sad state of affairs. Even in St. Louis, in Busch Stadium no less, you can find selections from two local craft brewers, one of them pretty ubiquitously. Cheers, Dave

RANT: Another (spongy) nail in the coffin

Definitely up, and it was relatively spontaneous. I don't know that I started too much of the beer talk. I didn't say, or mean to imply, that it was "better" with more beer talk, just that we covered different ground. As with all such gatherings, they are about the people, with the food...

RANT: Another (spongy) nail in the coffin

Fair enough if you've spent enough time with good beer to make a determination for yourself that it's not worth the effort. That wasn't apparent from your original post, not that it should have been, this being Wine Disorder after all. Hell, I'm married to a woman who can't stand beer (though...
