The glories of Cordier funk

First wine of vacation (actually haven't left yet). 1978 Talbot, very full, balanced, ready to roll, coffee, touch of leather, old cab fruit, glorious mix of library and acid. Lots of concentration, nice texture, and totally resolved. The best 78 I've had. Decent amount of VA but under control. Good fill, but rough sticky cork that fell apart.

Sounds really delicious. Only had a couple of the older Cordiers with that bit of leathery funk - '85 Gruaud-Larose & Cantemerle - but loved those wines.
Who were the other Cordier producers during that period? I've been trying to find some older Bordeaux that won't break the bank.

Cheers,

Salil

Cantemerle was Cordier?
Recollect seeing a Cordier label on that '85, and it certainly had that Cordier funk about it - touches of leather and animal woven beautifully into the fruit and dust.

Subject to the standard 31 year old wine cavaets, I had a '78 Leoville Las Cases a few years back that was really beautiful - lush, complex, etc. Of course, given my palate, that probably means it tasted like old Burgundy and a Bordeaux lover would be disappointed.

Had a '78 Lafite-Rothschild around the same time (ran into some attractively-priced '78s at auction) and much preferred the Las Cases.

Cheers,

Dave

Talbot I think was a Cordier wine then.
