    Well, this is new!

Man, they even turned Wine Disorder into a Starbucks.

    Five Wines w/Dinner (menu)

Jim is correct on this. The reds are abhorrent, but the whites can be all right. Not great, but decent, and without the features that make the reds so offensive.

    The Latest German Wine-Labelling Dummheit

    But why *would* they have?

    The Latest German Wine-Labelling Dummheit

Silly but doesn't seem like a huge deal. Having Dhroner Goldtropfchen out there will probably help out producers who've struggled to build similar cachet for Dhroner Hofberg.

    Seeking Thoughts on 1975 Bordeaux

Trotanoy is worth chasing (permit me to recommend the dynamite 1998) but VCC is the Pomerol nearest and dearest to my heart.

    Age your Fiano

Guido Marsella 2015 Fiano di Avellino - really dazzled tonight. Punchy aromatics packed with gunpowder at first, which clears up after a little bit. I believe this is about 8 years past release and it's paid off the time sideways by thinning out the flesh a little bit to highlight the texture...

    Seeking Thoughts on 1975 Bordeaux

'75 Bordeaux is a great litmus test for people who get their information from word of mouth instead of actually drinking wine. They've been mature and good to drink since the day I got into wine, yet even now years later I hear people thinking they've uttered a profundity by saying, "But will...

    Current State of "Terroir Debate"

That's probably the best definition for it I've heard and unifies all kinds of different understandings.

    Current State of "Terroir Debate"

I figure that until that dirt-to-glass pathway is established scientifically, we may as well fully embrace terroir as a spiritual concept rather than a biological one, which means I come down on the yay side of including man in the equation.

    D.R.C. at Costo

Pretty strange. I don't think DRC sells 5 bottle "assortments," much less in a 6-bottle OWC, so this isn't really an assortment so much as 5 random bottles of DRC, which based on the markup didn't come through the usual distribution channels. I wouldn't have thought Costco would bother selling...

Assorted Burgundy TNs (August 2025-January 2026)

Big Desaunay-Bissey fan here. A Weygandt import and a real throwback style of Burgundy.

    CWD: recent wines (2025-12)

It's been at least since 2008 that young Gouges has been friendly enough to drink (and also cleaner). Getting rid of the Barolo tannins and the more-than-occasional brett stank are both good things in my book and hasn't turned the wines into anything we'd consider philosophically objectionable -...

What did you buy a case of this year?

I indeed get a warm feeling whenever Corbin Michotte is opened, even if the Portuguese demon lurks. What a bummer. Don't think I've ever seen the '82 around.

What did you buy a case of this year?

This question has gotten a little easier now that we've let Them get away with foisting the 6-bottle case on us. Going by the customary definition my last true case was a nice auction score on '16 Claure Naudin Orchis Mascula
