CWD: What did you drink last night (or whenever)?

Had the 2000 CRB Cabernet with ribeye and roasted cauliflower. Just a lovely showing. Last bottle was well on the downslope, but not this bottle. Maybe I’ve got one more ???

    Wine impressions 11-6-23

Agree that the Winkl is a fantastic wine and worth the effort to search out. Haven’t looked at prices recently.

Sign of the times, no Falkenstein for the masses

PSA: Vinopolis in Portland has some 2022s from Falkenstein on the shelves. Just grabbed some yesterday.

WTN: 2009 Texier Brezeme VV Domaine de Pergaud

Very promising right out of the bottle — decent tannins, black fruits, less acid than has often been associated with the name Brezeme but still rather adequate. Gave it an hour’s decant before food was served. Didn’t budge a single inch for that hour, or for the rest of its short life. I’ve...

    Thorle Probstey Silvaner 2021

Just so very crisp. Limes and minerals. Fantastic with an offbeat dinner of fresh antipasto salad and leftover bbq pork from the local Chinese place. IME wines like this don’t hold that edge very long — drink one tomorrow if you have any!

    Wine impressions 2-9-23

Yeah, I think many 2019 Oregon pinots will need times to show their best, but will be worth the wait.

    Portland restaurants?

+1 for Coquine and Lovely’s 50-50. Higgins also very strongly recommended.

Vacation wine: 2018 Alain Gauthier Morgon Grands Cras

So jealous that you are up in the San Juans now! I need to get up there next summer, this summer isn’t going to happen. That will be my first trip as a landlubber — our partnership sold the old sailiboat just before the pandemic hit.

Recent vintages you went long on

Look for the “Old Vines” Pinot Noir for the value play at this address.

Recent vintages you went long on

I have good local access to Goodfellow — though now I’m buying from the list. I did also pick up some Arterberry Maresh in 2019, now that you remind me. And a couple of bottles of his new Chardonnay project, Tan Fruit. Did you buy any of the Kelley Fox vermouth? A must purchase, IMO. It...

Recent vintages you went long on

Mark, no comments on Hope Well. Too many good wineries in Oregon these days to try them all. I had stopped buying Evesham Wood when Russ Raney retired. Revisited them a couple of years ago, and found that they were still worth drinking.

Recent vintages you went long on

I bought from Vincent, Kelley Fox, Championship Bottle, Goodfellow, Twill, Evesham Wood, and Martin Woods. Even squeezed in a few bottle of Thomas. Some of these are newer, the others have been regular purchases in varying quantities. Really don’t know where I’d cut down if I had to. And I...
