I've still done BYO at King Fung about 4 times since it was sold. The first course of the duck is pretty darned similar, though the second noodle course is rather different. I never get around to the soup, so I can't comment on that. Personally, with China King nearby, I'd rather eat there to...

    Malden Center, MA

Tufts Med Center Station is not too far from Chinatown, which is loaded with good BYO places like King Fung, China King, China Pearl and Dong Khanh. -Michael

    Jamais Jamet

Wow, what a great night that was! I, too, loved the 95 Jasmin--so wonderfully perfumed and finely-flowing. I actually thought it had a bit more in common with the 95 Jamet than the 95 Jamet had with the 94 Jamet. This was a night when the ringers were never out of place--the Jasmin, Texier...

The Prum is in the Pudding...

Nice pictures, Dan. I must say I'm in a Prum-induced coma today, after those 21 bottles of Wehlener Sonnenuhr! Great tasting, thanks to our pun-happy host for organizing! Amazing consistency of quality from this producer and sight (no duh, right?). Not a single bottle (other than the 1...

    Heitz Martha's Vineyard

Yixin, I last had one about a year ago. It was the 1992, which I think was one of the last vintages before the re-planting. I've had one or two more recent vintages (can't recall which, exactly) and they have a ways to go before matching the quality of that 1992, which was really youthful yet...

    Middle aged Burgundy at Chloe

Dan, we were in close agreement, which is nice. The group had the Meo first (16 pts), Rousseau and Leroy tied for second (15 pts), the Bouchard Bonnes Mares fourth (11 pts) and the Dugat fifth (6 pts) and the Bouchard Cazetiers sixth (2 pts). Of course, this assumes I am reading Greg's...

    Temecula, or thereabouts?

My sister used to live in the area, so I have been on several occasions, though not for 5 years or so. Nothing that I would call worth going out of your way for, certainly. If you must go, I do remember some offbeat rustic wines at Hart, an interesting domestic Sangiovese at Mt. Palomar, and...

    Middle aged Burgundy at Chloe

Dan, I figured they were so late in coming that they wouldn't be missed here! Probably the case anyway!! Mike got his impressions in--what say you? -Michael

    King Fung II rises

I saw the footage of the KFII "incident" the other day and am very glad to hear that everybody there is OK and that they are now open for business. Looks like you all had a great time. My favorite photo (besides the first one where Pmac is giving you the finger) is the one with the bird head...

    Cape crusaders

Interestingly, I had the 2002 Vin de Constance twice and the 2004 once last week in S.A. The first was in great condition, the second was totally corked and the last seemed a bit tired. I never considered the neck shape, but I have to say it sort of makes sense to me. -Michael

    TN: 12 Old Rioja: 1925-1981

Great stuff and a fine read, thanks. Kudos on whatever connection you are working to get your hands on all of these beauties. 1925 Marques de Riscal--wow.

    Talkin' about Trocken

ouch. Nice tasting, Joe and TW. The only one of those I've tried is the Schafer Frohlich Bockenauer Felseneck GG. I, too, would have thought it might stand out a bit more than it did, but can understand the context. I need to try a tasting like this one of these days.

Charles, I didn't know you had the same birthday as my daughters! Most certainly not the same year... -Michael

    All the Rhone posts

Man, I love the '01 Jamet. I need a fix of that... My last '99 La Rosine was real cork. Very nice wine, by the way.

Thor, Keep those South Africa notes coming. How the hell else would I know what to drink on my upcoming trip there? Oh, I have a multi-page document and extensive travelogue notes to guide me... Well, keep em coming, anyway! Michael
