    TN: Recent drinks (August 2019)

    Picked this up based on the label and the use of the 'vermentinu' spelling, and yes, what a great bottle of wine! Fresh, interesting, great with or without food, and $18 if I recall correctly.

    Stuttgart

    Thanks Georg. I'm looking for good places to eat (probably most important), good wine bars, and interesting wines to look out for that might not be available in the US. Thanks in advance.

    Stuttgart

    I will shortly have a couple days to spend in Stuttgart. What's the good word?

    Mark, did you really mean 47 micron? Seems a little large, and Google says that's the size of a coarse frit.

    Aging = Maillard ?

    Yet another writer conflating caramelization and pyrolysis with the Maillard reaction. Sigh. On the question itself, I am slightly more skeptical than Mark, mostly because the Maillard reactions should be retarded in acidic environments (like wine). I think it much more likely that the Maillard...

    Yes, just the usual concerns about reduction. Are we not supposed to do that any more?

    Keeping aromatic compounds in...

    I have no problems with this. As Kirk alludes to, everything is a membrane, and, in my opinion, a winemaker is free to choose among them as long as nothing is added. It's interesting to think about this process in comparison to carbonic maceration in which the grape skin acts as the membrane.

    Kelley Fox

    I've been buying the wines since the '07 vintage. They are an absolute joy to drink. Bertrand Celce did a profile a couple years ago.

    Jeff, you're right. What I meant to suggest was that if they are predominantly doing C, then the only way for them to continue to operate is as a Ponzi scheme.

    Premier Cru Bankruptcy

    Seems like I'm mostly echoing Jonathan but here goes. I ordered on and off from PC from about 2006-2009 and received everything I ordered. Like most people, I'd imagine, I started ordering from them because the prices were good. I stopped when I finally learned that bad wine at a good price is...

    Premier Cru Bankruptcy

    I guess I was bored because I went ahead and scraped the data from the pdf filing. You can get a .csv file of the data here, and some basic analysis is here. The largest claim is $837,000 and there are 17 claims over $100k. Bear in mind that the filing only contains claimants with first names...
