    Non spoofed 05 Bourgogne

Interesting thread. For myself, I don't see chapitalisation as spoofing. Coming from the New World it seems a bit weird. But great wines are often made in areas on the tipping point, with marginal weather conditions, like Burgundy, where sometimes the makers need to chapitalise. I see other...

    Wave of Fevre Raves

Todd, that certainly sounds neutral. All I can say is that when I taste the Fevre Grand Crus I get more oak than on some other Chablis. Best, Howard

    Wave of Fevre Raves

To answer my own question about Fevre's oak regime, this from Fevre's website about the vinification of the Les Clos and the Fourchaume: "12 to 15 months, of which 4 to 6 months on fine lees in French oak barrels for 60 to 70% of the harvest. The end of maturation occurs in small stainless...

    Wave of Fevre Raves

Carl, I thought Fevre does use oak particularly on their Grand Cru? I have a friend who claims to be able to spot the Fevre Les Clos in a Les Clos lineup, due to its oak. That's what I assumed the "spoof" thing was about ...? Cheers, Howard

    Wave of Fevre Raves

Sorry Fatboy, I can't do a vintage-by-vintage histogram. My top three in the Chablis hierarchy was more an overall assessment, looking over many vintages. No doubt some houses do better than others in particular vintages, but the vintage overall, along with site and producer, seems to be the...

    Wave of Fevre Raves

Hi Pete. In the Chablis heirarchy I rate Fevre just a little below Raveneau and Dauvissat. But I still like Fevre and buy them most vintages. If I'm being critical of Fevre, their oak treatment can be a little too heavy compared with other top producers. But they have great Chablis sites ...

TN: Korean, Italian... who can tell? (April 22, 2014)

Jeff, nice wines. I'm a fan of Jamet C-R, I recently had the 1995, that was great! Cheers, Howard

Jay, sounds right to me. A US based friend brought this to a lunch. I wouldn't open for at least 5 years.

    08 Rhys alpine vineyard PN

Recently 2008 Rhys Pinot Noir Horseshoe Vineyard, similar 12.8% alc, but I expected more. Dark and dense, lots of structure, shutting down, a cellar wine. Impressive, however I worried about an apparent lack of acids.

Sasha simultaneous post. I see what you did there.

    fuckin a - raveneau

Fevre's ok if you can't get Raveneau. Neither is worth mudwrestling for IMO.

    Gaunoux Pommard Epenots '05

Nice note Pete. I like Epenots but do not know this house. I'm not brave enough yet to try my '05 1ers, so glad to see this was so open. I'll look out for the house ... Cheers, Howard

    fuckin a - raveneau

Odd, mixed cases of Raveneau? I dream of such things. The maximum allocation I can get is 4-6 bottles per annum ... And nothing wrong with their 2009s (I have MdT at 93 on CT). Cheers, Howard
