Yes.

I'll bring some '99 Texier Hermitage and an Elvish sword of great antiquity.

Cool. I'll have to dredge up some old D&D stuff to pawn off on y'all while we pass the time.
Mark Lipton

Do you have the old Deities and Demi-gods? You know, the one with Elric in it? I think my folks threw out a box of my stuff with that in it.

While you dweebs are D&D'ing (never played it, never had a desire to do so), I'll be sucking down '99 Hermitage.

Regarding logistics, it sounds like Steve's schedule is more restrictive than ours. Perhaps we should see what works better for him? The only restaurant I know that is close to Terroir and is jeebus-friendly is Heaven's Dog. I'm sure there must be others.

Apropos my previous comment, that's a decade too late for me, VLM. Maybe I could find Greyhawk or Alarums & Excursions. Any takers?

I'm in. Anyone have any experience with 54 Mint?

Fantastic, Tofurkey! Just to throw an extra curve into the planning, Steve has expressed his willingness to do something early with the added observation that a dinner in the East Bay would give him more time. How do folks feel about a Berkeley venue for dinner? I'm happy to BART back afterward.

East Bay is fine. I work in Fremont. I'd have to drive over the Bay Bridge anyway to get home so I could give you a ride back to SF. I believe Slaton and Arjun work in the East Bay.

Can two more join? Mondays are one of my girlfriend's off nights from her restaurant job. We like
opportunities to get out of Santa Cruz.

The more the merrier, Ned. We still haven't settled on location or time, so it's not as if we're locked into any plan yet.

Sure, just speaking up, in case it affects anything.

And when does the other one have off?

I want to say, wouldn't it have needed to be "girlfriends' " for that meaning? Wiseguy.

OK, no objection has (yet) been raised to an East Bay event, so where is a good, jeebus-friendly location open on a Monday? Alternatively, we could just choose a place with a good wine list, depending on the inclinations of others. Although I've got some fairly strongly-held opinions about Berkeley dining spots, I'm always open to suggestions...

Hey, you can still meet us for drinks at Terroir, Monkey-boi.

The problem with many of the obvious east bay candidates that come to mind is they are a bit far from BART. Camino, Dopo, Cafe Rouge, etc.

Pizzaiolo is convenient, but iirc they are hesitant to cut corkage deals.

I know better than to suggest Commis in this crowd.

Tofurky, help us out here.

Are there committed anti-Commis among the interested? I've been there once and would go again.
The night I was there, a party of 8 seemed to be well treated and looked to be going through some bottles. Their list is short, but it had interesting wines. I brought a Bornard pinot noir that the hostess was very curious about. I guess what I'm sayin' is that they seemed like they could be jeebus friendly.
Good glassware, corkage negotiable... etc...

Mexican standoff between skraft and jhanlon last time it was mentioned.

I've still not been and cannot comment, but people I respect really like the chef's work.

Liaison is a close walk from Berkeley BART, Panisse isn't that far. Corso is close, but it might be hard to get space.
My issue is having to rise at 5am Tuesday to catch a plane. I'm a bit beyond the point where I can survive a late nighter under those circumstances. But I can do this some other time, if it gets too complicated.

Understood, Steve. What would be an acceptable start time for you? 6 pm OK? I'd guess that the closer we kept it to your digs, the better, as far as you're concerned.

Mark Lipton

p.s. I spoke with my mother last night: "That Steve Edwards is a very nice man!" It sounds like I may be down a bottle or two by the time I make it out there...

If not already!
6 would work.
