NYC Thursday 3/28. 2019!

It looks like I'll be working in NYC the week of 3/25. The schedule hasn't firmed up yet but my guess is I can cut loose after Thursday afternoon.

Anyone free for dinner and general jeebing on Thursday evening 3/28?

Friday 3/29 might be possible as well, but won't be able to confirm for awhile.
No idea yet but if I had to throw a dart I'll likely be staying in Manhattan somewhere between East Village and Murray Hill.

There's a rumor going around that the jeebus board needs checking. Have you heard anything about this?

Would love to get together. Did you have any ideas and/or parameters for venue?

Jay & Jeff, a low/no corkage place is a-ok. Happy for you to recommend one, my only requirement is to be pescetarian-friendly.

Jayson, sorry to miss you this time.

Corkage was 30 not 35 but still, corkage. I should be free on 3/28!

I'd volunteer to cook but that might be tough on a Thursday.

Not sure I know any no-corkage places, other than perhaps various Chinese restaurants (some of which are quite worthwhile).

Low corkage list includes Cafe Loup, Peking Duck House (midtown); for more $ there is North Square; we could attempt to prevail on resto that have a BYO night (Racine, Milling Room) to extend it for us. Outside Manhattan we can contact Good Fork, haven't been there in a while.

Thanks Jeff -

Cafe Loup and Milling Room both look perfectly serviceable.

Peking Duck House would be just fine as well (although I would not be ordering the duck).

Good Fork looks very good but is a rather long haul (1hr subway trip from Manhattan). Although I don't know where everyone is coming from.

I quite enjoyed Racines the one time I visited, but wouldn't rave about it. However that was at least two chefs ago.

I went to a no-corkage place in Chinatown with Oswaldo, Rahsaan, and Scott a few years ago that was quite nice and friendly, although the atmospherics weren't great - as one would expect. Scott would know the name but it was a last-minute pick after the planned resto was closed for a private event.

Hm. I haven't been to Cata in a while; wonder what they'd say? I talked them down from $30/btl to $15/btl last time.

Chinatown places: Wu's Wonton (really good food but not a great environment nor a place to linger nor is it easy to get a glass of water...), Bite of Hong Kong (nice setting, decent food), Ping's (hit or miss), Grand Sichuan (tends to be crowded). There are still more.

There's also Maison Kayser, a very finite menu but typically a quiet room.

I think .sasha and Jayson know a Turkish place.

3/29 is a Friday so no leverage to be had by "we'll fill your table if you give us a break on corkage".

I'd suggest we go with whatever option most excites the locals.

Are we confirmed for Thursday 3/28, or is the date still in play?

I just threw a dart and it landed on Bite of Hong Kong. But only if that doesn't mean we're all bringing riesling. Cool?

I'd like to join to bite the Hong Kong. Café Loup would have been fine, too, though I haven't been there in ~20 years. No riesling, promise. Or maybe just one...

Nice, Zach. It will be super nifty to finally meet you and Jeff after all these years.

And riesling is just fine. But would prefer not to go the theme route with that, e.g. must bring dry riesling because we are eating Cantonese.

Heavens, no! Bring Pradikat riesling for me. Anyway, there are plenty of good dishes for light and midweight reds, earthy roses, and other 'aromatic' whites.

Zach, you're in.

BoHK it is.
