NYC Thursday 3/28. 2019!

But cellar heirlooms aside, yes I am always in favor of people bringing what they most want to drink.
I bought them all so I want to drink them all. In what order is a somewhat secondary concern.

Went last night. You should secure your squab in advance. We were shut out.

I highly recommend Rosé champagne, which went marvelously with various shrimp appetizers.

I have one Rose on hand but Jeff just had a bottle of it on Saturday. Jeff - how do you feel about another 2009 Vilmart Rubis so soon after the first one?

I'm also considering a 1999 Musar and a 2001 Mongeard Mugneret Vougeot 1er Cru.

Considering Gonon 06 (both!), Levet 06 Peroline, Jamet 04, Voge 06 Fontaines, or Otheguy 06 Massales.

I prefer chvaroche to peroline. The label makes all the difference.

I have a 2007 Prager I could bring to pair with the alzinger.

As threatened I am bringing a Champagne, although it's not a rosé as I couldn't source anything decent locally. It's a 2008 but unlike many has recent reports of drinking very well.

Also bringing something inspired by the Northern Rhone mini-theme, but hailing from a more forlorn corner of somewhere that I visited awhile back.

Side question: how is the new Racines chef? I have heard nothing, and was trying to decide whether to visit while I am in town.

I have also inquired at Secchu Yokota, although my expectations are low given the short notice.

Thank you.

Racines... I have not eaten there since the change.

Secchu Yokota... I think, if you didn't pick Fri or Sat, you'll probably get in. Do you care first or second seating?

Pleasant surpise - I was able to get the last spot for the second seating on Friday at Secchu Yokota.

I see that most of the wine bars in Manhattan I know of have closed in the last couple of years. Does Verre de Terre still exist? Its website appears to have 'expired', but perhaps it is just an occasional pop-up now.

I am a little under the weather but hoping it clears up by Thursday. I long ago lost track of what we actually expect to be on the table that night - is a Hirtzberger Rotes Tor GV Federspiel 11 of interest? Occhipinti Frappato from 10 years ago? Older Rostaing (just the Cote Rotie)? Michelot Vaucrains 01 (which was in a terrible mood when I opened one 4 years ago)

I haven't eaten with the new chef but I've heard some disappointing word and this recent review is pretty damning:

Everyone agrees wine service and selection remains impeccable.

"This makes Racines highly unusual, maybe even unique, in that it’s a place where we’ve had some of the worst meals we can remember, and yet we’re eager to return. Not out of morbid curiosity or food-focused masochism, but out of a desire to sit at the bar and drink excellent, relatively affordable wines while listening to the staff give entertaining anecdotes about each one. That’s one thing they do very well, but it’s also the only thing."
