They are as they were when they were released. We looked for dates but my recollection is that none were found. Our understanding is that they were very old.

So, are those old bottles of Chartreuse, or recent makes?

How can one tell how old their Chartreuse is?

Well, if I bought the bottle 40 years ago, I’m willing to hazard that the contents are old.

Do people like Chartreuse? Feelings on green vs. yellow? What about the VEP bottlings? I've wanted to buy some for home but haven't gotten around to it yet.

VEP for me but it’s jet fuel.
Best, jim

If anyone in or visiting the Bay Area if/when things return to "normal" wants to taste older Chartreuse, there are several at The Morris in San Francisco. The owner/beverage director is passionate about them and sources bottles from Europe. He charges dearly though.

Presumably that would be the Green VEP? 55% is a bit hot for me as well on the spirits front. The yellow at 40/42% is more likely to be where I start.

I like it very much, though once a year is plenty.

What a wonderful combination of sentiments! Not sure what I would apply that to in my life. Maybe certain people.

As I recall, the yellow is substantially sweeter than the green.

Interesting point, which triggered a reverie. I've met people who were simultaneously SO intense and SO intelligent that I wanted to run away. I would later think "how can someone like that ever find a compatible mate?" Perhaps one of the secrets of any couple's longevity must be a compatibility of mellownesses.

I've got both at the house. Next time we jeeb (and it's getting nice out) you can sample and see what you think.
