I broke the Rule, but it was ok2008 Gonon St. Joseph. So good. Brambly and long. Put on your old moleskin trousers and walk the fields, bushwhack through a hedge or two, puff the pipe, hands in pocket, cap on head.
I think I have some of the 09 and 10 blanc left. Back then I could still buy the wines for reasonable prices so I would get a few bottles of the blanc with the red St J. I wondered if maybe it would age like a Hermitage blanc. I think the Gonon St Joseph vineyards are in fairly similar soil and elevation as Hermitage hill. David Lillie didn’t think the 09 was for aging so maybe I shouldn’t have tried this. If you’re game we can try it together.originally posted by BJ:
Marc D, I still remember the Gonon blanc you treated us to many years ago now. I underappreciated it at the time.

i stumbled upon '08 gonon on a wine list maybe 3 years ago, and the price was great, so we had it. it was lovely gonon st. joseph to be sure, but even then seemed to have nothing left to sustain it further.
as poor a vintage as 2008 was, this is just not a 20 year wine, unless storage was kept in the 40's.
even jll recommends finishing by 2015/2016 and he's british.
Thanks Ben, that’s helpful.originally posted by Ben Hunting:
09 Gonon Blanc hasn’t aged all that well in my experience. Opened the 10 recently, magnificent but could age longer. Overall I find the Gonon Blanc to be somewhat less consistent bottle to bottle than the Rouge.
