Wine impressions 11-23-21

2018 Jadot, Pinot Noir Couvent des Jacobins - a label I am not familiar with; strong tannins dominate this wine for 30-45 minutes and then it smoothed out some; big fruit. Power and length but only after time in the glass, at $22, approx, gives a somewhat young Cote de Beaune type experience.

2018 de Moor, Chablis l’Humeur de Temps - precise, pretty but, in truth, little to suggest Chablis. Nice wine but not the Chablis I’m looking for.

2016 Belluard, Le Feu - Gringet from the Savoie; a bit oxidized but not so as to foul the wine; deep, interesting yet, in the end, wanting. I expected more.

2018 Dom. des Marnes Blanches, Poulsard - a Cotes de Jura wine that is fresh, light, focused and keeps its sense of place with a delivery that tends to the feminine. Keeps me wanting more.

2010 Gonon, St. Joseph VV - begins closed and angular but wakes quickly to become a quintessential northern Rhone with lovely complexity. Excellent balance and never heavy. Finishes slightly on the thin side; even so, a singular experience.

2020 Le Clos do Tue-Boeuf, Pineau d’Aunis - oh this is lovely; light red color, dusty but fruit filled nose, so elegant in the mouth and a pleasure to drink. Too easy to drink; more please.

2012 Marestal, Roussette de Savoie - Smells and tastes of butter - not “buttery” but rather fresh, chilled butter. And one glass was too much. Not for me.

2019 Schmitt Sohne, Riesling Qba Rheinhessen - screw-cap closure, 9.5% abv; there is nothing wrong with this wine but there is little to distinguish it. Fine with Caesar salad with chicken in a motel room after 10 hours on the road but . . .

Best, Jim

Jim, this is a wine I really love, but all recent bottles with a few years of age had some oxidation, mostly more than just a bit. I very much hope to find a pristine bottle to refresh the nice memories.

Does anybody know whether the winery continues?

Thank you Jeff. That sounds still very vague.
