The Monticello Wine Trail

Barboursville makes solid wines and used to have a very good restaurant (but my visit was a decade or more ago). Horton was a pioneer of non-mainstream varieties better matched to Virginia's climate (e.g. Tannat, Viognier, the Mansengs), which make for an interesting tasting.

Do no expect to be wowed. Horton made a couple of nice viogniers in the mid 90s and that was about it. I like Barboursville less than Chritian. It goes slowly downhill from there. There are some better wineries in the Front Royal area. Nothing I go out of my way for.
