Quebec wine?

I hate to be the wine list question guy, but going to a restaurant in Montreal tomorrow with a fine list of many familiar choices. But also more than a few Quebec wines. Given the quality of the rest of the list, I assume these are good. But I have no idea about anything! Anyone have insight?

I had the Les Pervenches Pinot Zwiegelt not too long ago (in Montreal) and it was a nice wine, nothing spectacular but very drinkable and tasted like Zwiegelt. I've also had the Nival Pinot and thought it was a decent light Pinot.

I try to buy/drink as much Québecois wine as I can but this list is daunting.

Les Pervenches and Domaine du Nival are imported by Vom Boden; you can find good write-ups of the specific cuvées on their website. I find the wines compelling but often cerebral; they don't necessarily do well in a crowd, but the whites may stand out more than do the reds. Les Pervenches do very well with chardonnay (I see Les Rosiers on the list). A local source told me that the '20 Nival Matière à Discussion (vidal) is drinking very well right now; I have yet to open any of my stash.

Pinard et Filles are, to my palate, the stars. They do a lot with hybrids like marquette and frontenac gris, but their vinifera wines are special and not easy to find.
* Momo Pinku is a lighter gamay/pinot blend; I have not had it but their other gamay is delicious; high-toned, almost fragile. If you've had Louis Terral's still gamay from Bugey you might recognize the style.
* Blanc de Noirs is direct press pinot noir/meunier. A bottle earlier this year was a little mute but also probably served too cold.
* Calvaire is a new to me; apparently 100% riesling.

The upside to all this choice is that the exchange rate gives you lots of latitude for experimentation.

If you come across the Desrochers honey wines, they're also worth a try. There are a number of pet-nat style wines that are fun for apéro, but the drier cuvées (Evolée, Blizz) are killer pairings with a cheese plate.

Wow, thanks for that. I was wondering if Mike's estimation of "nothing spectacular but very drinkable" was going to be as good as it gets. Because frankly I didn't have much prior knowledge of these wines. But now you've got me excited!

Always new horizons...

These are not my regular drinking and therefore could be interesting. Depends on companions!

Delicious dinner was last night. Pinard & Filles Momo Pinku 2019 was an interesting exposure to Quebec. High toned indeed, screechy, 9% alcohol. I guess global warming did not arrive that year! But Ca de Noci Notte di Luna 2019 was an excellent reminder of how delicious that wine can be. And the first time my friends had tasted skin-contact whites, so it was educational as well (in a more enjoyable way than our education into Quebec gamay).

Still, as global warming does arrive, perhaps the region will become more and more attractive to some of us.

it's a delicate balance between having enough snow on the slopes and the wines being ripe enough for apres-ski, no?
