Burgundy dinner (menu)

OK, Pete, having scared you off from question begging, I will now turn my attention to wordsmithing. The word writers use to describe that act is writing. To wordsmith is insulting business jargon, as if writing were like blacksmithery, a necessary, but subsidiary task. To give the devil his due, however, playwright has the same implication, but playwrite is incorrect. Nevertheless, I am not with Bill and Jim about grammar. Having seen how incoherent grammatical writing can be, I am not willing to say fuck the grammar.

Heh.

Seems to me that the point is this: Pete is a big boy and he can see the style that most folks use. He won't do it so he should expect some grousing. If and when the grousing becomes irritating then he will change what he does or he will depart (which is the OP version of "don't open it"). As to us, well, different things make different people grouse. The way of the world.

I have never quite figured out the standards for posting here. The closest I’ve come is this phrase from the FAQ:
“. . . we discourage a locker room atmosphere, so a basic level of civility is suggested. This especially applies to inflammatory political/religious discourse, which really has no place on a wine chat board.”

Pretty broad . . .

And I don’t smell old gym socks either.

You're not trying hard enough.

The style here is "tell us about the wine." (With the corollary that we're happy to hear about other things - not points - as long as you get around to the wine eventually.)

When someone posts such monstrosities, it grates.

Hyperbole, much?

I remember Joe. He was endearingly brilliant. He was insightful. He was passionately principled. And sometimes, he was a dick.
