Friday, June 16th, I retired after teaching middle school math for 22 years. I turned 60 in March and my son just graduated from high school and is off to UCLA in the fall. My family has a lot to celebrate.
To that end, we are having a party and opening up four magnums. I have zero experience with this, and I welcome any advice regarding decanting or any other information that anyone thinks would be helpful. I plan to stand the bottles up 72 hours before opening them. I have a bunch of other wines if these don’t work out. Here is what I am planning on serving:
2004 Stony Hill Chardonnay
2008 Cowan Cellars Skin Contact Sauvignon Blanc
2014 Clos de la Roilette Tardive
2011 Rhys Horseshoe Vineyard Plot Noir
To accompany all of this wine, we are serving Middle Eastern foods. My wife and I are planning on baking dozens of cookies and serving some dessert wines. I am working on a play list with everything from the Carpenters to Scrapper Blackwell. What could go wrong? (I never would have written that last sentence before I was retired.)
