TN: Scott's Birthday at home (July 8, 2023)

Another live one: Scott's birthday is today, his 65th circuit of Sol.

Friends from various stages of his life show up for an evening party -- no accident, of course, as Reisha has spent weeks rallying the troops, organizing the catering and covered-dish brings, sneaking in a few party games, etc. A couple of our wine-soaked brethren were also there so a few bottles were drunk:

To begin:
Ar Pe Pe 2016 Rosso di Valtellina - magnum (it is a party), mountain wine, lightweight and crisp and refreshing, totally gluggable

To continue:
Pinon 2018 Vouvray Brut Non-Dose - lovely, as always, yellow fruit with a drizzle of honey

Prum J.J. 2021 Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Spatlese - also very nice but quite a bit sweeter than the kabinett

Dom. Rollin 2020 Hautes-Cotes de Beaune - Jay has brought this wine to other events, this bottle is also excellent: good palate presence but not oily, the fruit was picked before any tropical flavors appeared, just lovely

Vincent 2018 Pinot Noir "Armstrong Vineyard" - I am a fan of Ribbon Ridge wines but this one under-performed; we did pop and pour, which FLJim suggested we _not_ do, but so it goes at a party

Shortly before we left(!):
Uccelliera 2001 Brunello di Montalcino - 14.5%, big ripe nose, palate is rich and chewy but slow to open; eventually we get some of sangiovese's cherries with the famous brown earth but the bottle seems a little tired (and it should open up more after a few hours but we had to depart)

Happy Birthday, Scott!

...this time with pictures...

I had the Armstrong in a decanter for about an hour and a half before the party

Armstrong is never my favorite but I wonder if there was something off with the bottle

I have another so I suppose I’ll find out eventually
