Wordsmith quote

"When christening a vessel or a vehicle (firetrucks, boats, warships, submarines, buses, even cars?) traditionally a champagne bottle is smashed against it. It supposedly brings good luck. It’s not known what they smash when launching a new line of champagne -- anything less than a warship would be a disgrace."

Well, I'm not sure what a Wordsmith quote is. And I would be no more sure if he has said Writer's quote, except that it would have made clearer that the phrase is redundant. What kind of quote, other than a verbal quote of a verbal remark, which is not the case here, is not one that was written? I can't be baited by what I can't construe.

As far as I can tell, I think he's saying we should smash you over the head with a bottle at our next dinner. But I might be misconstruing things.

Well, since we will be celebrating your launch into your next year of life, logically, we should christen you. But drinking the champagne would be putting it to better use.
